A gateway for minerals in West Asia
Iran sits between Asia, Europe and Africa and has mined gold, copper, iron, lead, zinc and silver for thousands of years. Its geology — where two ancient continents meet on the Alpine–Himalayan belt — makes it exceptionally rich in mineral deposits.
Neighbouring countries such as Turkey and the Persian Gulf states have invested heavily in industries like steel but import their raw materials — making Iran a natural supplier. Low-cost energy and access to open seas make it attractive for processing and export.
